Before we begin

Let's set the tone here quickly...

I have far too much stuff. My sweet little child, less than a year old, has far too much stuff. And my partner of seven years has far too much stuff. We're in just barely 1000 square feet and I am tired, exhausted, absolutely done with having to move one set of stuff to get to another set of stuff.

In the interest of simplifying my life, it is time to declutter. There comes a time when certain things are no longer as important as they used to be, or technology deems it unnecessary to hold onto anymore. My glowing example: first date movie tickets. I could scan and store these, and those flimsy bits of paper could be sent off to the recycle bin.

The mantra is reduce, reuse, recycle. I have been working backwards. I have recycled for years. I have been reusing for the last decade. It is now time to reduce.

The goal is to remove 2008 things from my home, car, storage area over the next 366 days. I think this is absolutely something that can be and should be done. I am hoping to recycle - donate - freecycle as much as possible.

This is the place that will keep me focused and honest and on track. I look forward to sharing ideas on:
- recycling objects
- finding creative ways to get the same accomplished with less
- why having so much physical clutter is causing so much emotional clutter

Let the purging begin! (In two days, at any rate.)
